Applying to Women’s Pioneer
Requests for help with housing greatly exceed the number of vacancies available and it is not practical for us to operate a waiting list for most of our homes. Consequently we do not accept direct applications for our general needs homes ie those where we do not provide tenants with support. Prospective tenants under 60 years of age are either nominated by the Councils in whose area we have properties or are referred by other agencies with whom we have referral arrangements. We do however have a short waiting list for single women over the age of 45 for bedsits mainly in the areas of W3 & W12. Please note this list is closed at the moment.
We hold a waiting list for our sheltered housing and an application form will be sent on request, or you can find a downloadable version under our Sheltered Housing section. We will endeavour to assist with this form if any applicant has difficulties in completing it, for whatever reason.
Our aim is to encourage sheltered tenants to continue to lead an independent life with the security of knowing that someone is at hand to help in an emergency. Eligibility is restricted to single women over 60 years of age who must be willing to accept a studio flat. We have schemes in W12, W8, W11 and several in SW5. We do not insist on a local connection and allocations are generally made in date order of application.
Other Housing Associations
A list of Housing Associations can be obtained from the Tenants Services Authority, Maple House, 149 Tottenham Court Road, London, W1 7BN. Tel: 0845 230 7000, or visit their website
The TSA also supplies information on shared ownership and can advise on Housing Associations operating the Homebuy Scheme. We understand that there are NO housing associations presently operating in London that maintain open waiting lists or provide direct access for applicants.
Further Advice
If you are threatened with homelessness it is important to contact your local Council’s Housing Department and seek advice or assistance under the 1996 Housing Act. You may also approach any Citizen’s Advice Bureau or Law Centre for independent advice.
A brief list of other organisations that may be able to offer advice follows. Please note this is not exclusive and there are many other hostels in London, although obviously vacancies are never guaranteed.
